Urumqi Tianshan International Airport

In April 2025, the "Tianshan International Airport" in Urumqi, Xinjiang was successfully put into operation. Another classic landmark project constructed with Rongji rubber strips has been born!



As a key national project during the 14th Five Year Plan period, Urumqi's Tianshan International Airport, with an annual passenger throughput of 48 million and cargo and mail throughput of 550000 tons, not only broke the scale record for infrastructure projects in the northwest region, but also became a key entry point for Xinjiang's integration into the global economic landscape.





The total investment of the new terminal building exceeds 42 billion yuan, covering an area of 500000 square meters, with 54 self-service check-in counters and 65 intelligent security check channels. The airport's flight area level has reached 4F, and its technological content is catching up with international first-class. Its completion marks that Xinjiang's aviation industry has entered a new stage, and also symbolizes the further rise of Urumqi as an important hub city of the "the Belt and Road".











The roof of the terminal building is inspired by the Silk Road and incorporates elements of the Tianshan Mountains, outlining the unique landscape of snow capped mountains and deserts. The dome adopts a continuous and undulating contour, resembling the snow capped peaks of the Tianshan Mountains. The earth yellow curtain wall reflects the desert style, integrating the natural code and cultural genes of Xinjiang into the architectural texture.




The exterior facade of the building is created through the combination of metal honeycomb aluminum panels and glass curtain walls, creating a ribbon like dynamic effect that echoes the commercial network of the ancient Silk Road.



As a landmark building of T4 terminal, the new tower has an overall height of 99.9 meters and adopts a large-area daylighting circular glass curtain wall combining strip glass and aluminum plate. Combined with BIM technology, it is manufactured with zero error according to the drawings, and the glass embedded base is processed. The construction error of subsequent processes is controlled within 5 millimeters.




With numerous "black technologies", the Tianshan International Airport project has obtained the national green building "three-star certification".



Urumqi has unique climate conditions, with cold winters that can reach as low as -28 ℃; Summer is hot, reaching up to 40 ℃, and there is a large temperature difference between day and night. This distinct temperature change poses great challenges to the performance of building sealing systems and rubber strips.
